UPDATE: The contests have ended, and thus far I don’t see any further information regarding winners or anything. It also doesn’t say how/when the winners will be notified, so I guess if it gets to be mid-June and you haven’t heard anything, you can safely assume that that’s a no.
As for me, I still have my fingers crossed that he’ll make it to a convention up here in the Midwest at some point. I’m not holding my breath, mind you, but I am crossing my fingers.

About a week ago (or last month, depending on your point of view), I spread the word that Steve Whitmire would be appearing at a Comic-Con in Knoxville, Tennessee (it turns out that there IS more than one Knoxville in the country, so it’s worth specifying).
Later in the week (or earlier in the month, depending on your point of view), it was announced that he is also appearing at conventions in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Raleigh, North Carolina. These “Supercons” are run by the same organization (which is why their websites look nearly identical), and each is hosting a contest which you can enter to win a meet-and-greet with Steve!
😲😱😃😂
The contests end on February 6th, though, so you have to hurry. All you have to do is visit the following contest webpages:
Florida contest entry
Raleigh, NC contest entry
You can enter through Facebook or you can enter with an e-mail address. Follow the instructions they provide; there’s a chance to make more than one entry for each contest.
Remember, the deadline is February 6th at 11:59 p.m. (I assume that’s Eastern Time since that’s the time zone both of those cities are in). Here’s a time zone converter for your convenience, but you’re better off getting your entry in early so you don’t have to worry about it. 😉
Good luck to all of those entering! May the odds be ever in our favor.
Obviously I will not be entering due to where I live, and I say this is fabulous news, because now we know he has not dropped off the grid. Perfect!!! I hope you win the chance to meet Steve, and it will suffice for me if you win, that I can hear all about it.

Thank you for that; that’s so sweet of you! Fair warning, though: Even if I win, I might not be able to go; as far as I can tell, the prize does not include travel expenses. I have an idea of how I might manage it anyway, but I’ll say no more about it here and now, because I don’t want to be putting the cart before the horse, as it were.
I agree with you that, if nothing else, this represents glad tidings about Steve. I’m kind of surprised, however, that he hasn’t posted something about it on his blog in the hopes of getting the word out. He doesn’t seem to be very skilled yet at using the Internet as a self-promotional tool; it’s both perplexing and endearing. 🙂

The World of Social Media …. not Steve’s favorite thing. Maybe he is hoping we will not fret and wonder now that his appearances are scheduled, and later may share about this decision, among other things. Remember, there were puppeteers with us on the Muppet Pundit, and I’m still friends with several from this site. I surmise he’s been through hell, and also been taking care of his family to the best of his ability. Imaging walking into a Walmart and applying for a job, and all you have on your resume is you are Muppeteer and originally Kermit before applying. This is to help you see he has to stay in what his does best, and buck up under the pressure of re-starting. I do wonder if he will bring a new puppet with him, based on the fact the Disney may own rights to the others?

Oh yes, I understand and I agree. I spent four years in a job I hated because I was long on education and short on practical experience, so it is not an entirely foreign concept to me. And I didn’t mean to criticize Steve; I was merely making an observation.

I love “Kokomo” too. I happened to catch it on TV at my grandmother’s house the first time I saw it; I must have been in my early teens.
