Gigantic thanks to reader and commenter Sidney who alerted me to the existence of this newly posted interview that Steve gave at Louisville Supercon in either late November or early December. It made my day. Pretty much my whole week, really:
For months (and this isn’t a criticism, just a statement of fact), Steve has been talking in the vaguest of terms about new characters he’s been developing, and now we finally have something more specific. Apparently he made a new character debut in Louisville. Someone commented upon it on Instagram, but I didn’t mention it at the time because I didn’t know any specifics.
If you’ve already watched the above video, you already know all the specifics that I do, but the new character’s name is Weldon, and he’s an internet troll.
An Internet Troll, you guys! Is that not HILARIOUS? The first time I watched this interview, I had to pause the video at that point because I was laughing so hard. I wonder what could have POSSIBLY inspired Steve to create a character like that?🤔
I’m impressed that the video covers as much material that it does over the span of not-quite-eleven minutes. Steve gets to talk about his involvement with the Shambala Preserve, which is nice because very few people ask him about that, but it’s fascinating. Then there’s some more Muppety material as well.
But wait, there’s more! I have a bonus for you: a short clip of Steve and the Spinneys doing a panel at San Antonio Comic Con (per the YouTube description) in which they talk about their favorite Muppet songs:
I just realized that I don’t think I’ve ever seen Steve and Caroll Spinney make an appearance together before. I’ve seen still photos of it so I know that it’s happened, but I don’t think I’ve seen video of it before, so this is a treat.Â
Hi, it’s in the wee hours of the morning here, so I’m saving this to enjoy later, but wow Mary, you made my day. We’ve been waiting for some great news on Steve, and I do believe this is it.
